2022 Summer Reading Program Schedule

The Sutherlin Library is happy to announce the 2022 Summer Reading Program theme is “Read Beyond the Beaten Path”.  Check out our Facebook page and the website to see the fantastic, fun and educational opportunities at the library this summer!

Plan to join us every Wednesday from 1:00-3:00 pm throughout the summer for these free sessions.  Program starts June 29th and runs until August 17th.

 

 

Sutherlin Library Celebrates Floyd Cooper Day!

This week’s Storytime celebrated beloved children’s book illustrator Floyd Cooper with the reading of “Where’s Rodney?”

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is also celebrating Floyd Cooper Day:

We have these amazingly illustrated books in our children’s library, so come check them out!

 

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at the Sutherlin C. Giles Hunt Library.

The Imagination Library is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children every month from birth to age five in participating communities. Through this program, every child under the age of five in in our community is qualified to receive a book by mail, at no cost to their families, every month until their fifth birthday. The first book a child receives is “The Little Engine That Could”. The month a child turns five years old they will receive “Look Out Kindergarten, Here I Come!”.

How to register:
All Sutherlin, Oakland and Umpqua library card holders are eligible to enroll.

Wednesday, June 23      Power of Plants with the Museum of Natural and Cultural History

Where would we be without plants? From the air we breathe to the foods we eat to the clothes we wear; plants provide essential ingredients for our survival. Join us for this science adventure and celebrate the power of plants through experiments, crafts, and other hands-on fun! The Power of Plants kit program is made possible with support from the Institute for Museum and Library Services.

Pick up the kits Wednesday, June 23, from 1:00-3:00 pm.
After 3:00 pm kits will be available at the library desk.

Wednesday, June 30      Tie Dying T-Shirts with Victoria Carnate

A class on tie dying T-shirts from 1:00-3:00 pm.
Open to school aged children accompanied by an adult to help.
T-shirts provided.

Wednesdays, July 7-28 Art Lessons with Morgan Krepky

Week 1:  Pirate Treasure Map
Week 2:  Tiger Wind Sock
Week 3:  Paper Caterpillar
Week 4.  Flower Power Science Kit (intro to color theory)

Art kit will be provided for each of the four weekly videos.
Pick up the kits on Wednesday, July 7, from 1:00-3:00 pm. After 3:00 pm kits will be available at the library desk. Twenty-five kits will be available.

Wednesday, August 4-18  STEM Lessons with Isaac Ashby

Week 1:  Wind turbine-build a turbine and test power of wind
Week 2:  Mug Cakes-students will develop their own microwavable cake
Week 3:  Maglev Trains -build a train that levitates with magnets

Weekly art kits will be provided to accompany lessons.
Pick up kits Wednesday, August 4, from 1:00-3:00 pm. After 3:00 pm kits will be available at the library desk.
